WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE
CROSS ?
The cross at its core represents the instrument of christ’s suffering and ultimate death. But it is so much more than a symbol of tragedy ! It is, paradoxically, the instrument of our salvation, the bridge between humanity and divine grace.
To truly understand its power, we must delve into its history. The story of the cross extends far beyond the confines of christian history. Centuries before in india and china, the cross served as a tool of execution. The condemned victim was fastened to the cross, either bound by cords or more brutally, nailed to the hands and feet. The individual was left suspended to endure a slow, agonizing death. The weight of the body, pulling downward, strained the muscles and joints, intensifying the torment. It was, without question, one of the most terrible and the most painful way to die that the human mind could conceive.
From a symbol of suffering to a symbol of hope and redemption, the cross became the central symbol of christianity, representing faith, sacrifice, peace and the promise of eternal life.
It is through the cross that we find forgiveness and redemption. However, if we neglect or refuse God’s offer of love and mercy, freely offered from the cross, we in essence participate in the crucifixion of christ.
The religious enemies of Christ and the Roman governor are not solely responsible for the death of christ, the reality is that we all bear a part in his death. His death was divinely planned, a necessary consequence of sin which afflicts all of humanity.
The Bible unequivocally states that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. It was not one group or one nation who condemned christ, it was the weight of human sin, that necessitated his sacrifice, it was collective responsability.
The love of Christ, manifested in the cross, encompasses all of humanity, it extends to every corner of the globe, embracing every nation, every race, and every individual. God’s love knows no boundaries.
It includes you, whatever your religion or even if you do not have any religion at all. God loves you unconditionnally. From the cross, He proclaims, « I love you ». It is not a conditional love, based on merit or worthiness, it is a love that embraces us in our imperfections, offering forgiveness and redemption.
No matter how high Heaven may be, the cross serves as a bridge, drawing all people to God. You must make a personal decision about Jesus Christ. This cannot be a passive acceptance of religious doctrine, it must be a conscious choice to embrace faith and follow Christ.
No matter how far we have strayed, no matter how deep we have sunk into sin, God’s love is powerful enough to lift us up and transform us.
We all had a part in the death of Christ because our sins put Him to the cross, and you participated.
Jesus christ came to die, He healed and fed thousands of people, but his most important work was the cross. At the cross, you are dealing with eternity. Your body is going to go to the grave, but your spirit, that part of you that lives forever, that lives inside your body, is going to live on and on and on.
Where will you spend eternity ? It will be decided by what you do about the cross because from the cross, He is asking you to repent of sin, which means to change your way of living, change your attitude, change directions in your life, and receive Him as Lord and Savior.
